South Berkshire Youth Coalition

The South Berkshire Youth Coalition was formed in 2001 in response to a series of drug and alcohol-related deaths of young people. Over the course of 3 years, 15 youth died from suicides, drug overdoses and alcohol-related car accidents. A federal grant became available to fund the Coalition so that we could work on this problem through financial empowerment of local agencies. Railroad Street Youth Project applied for this grant on behalf of the newly formed SBYC with Community Health Programs as the fiscal agent. We have since come under the umbrella of Community Health Programs as one of their supported programs. We are now in our 6th year of operation.

The mission of SBYC is to reduce risk factors and increase protective factors to decrease alcohol and other drug use in southern Berkshire County in a long-term and sustainable manner.
